SAFE, RELIABLE PROPANE

Professional service for your home, farm or business

Farmers Union Cooperative is a leading provider of propane for northeastern Iowa and southeastern Minnesota. Whether you need propane for your home, farm or business, we’re here to help.

Our team of professionals provide exceptional service and timely deliveries. We invest in ongoing training, and our technicians are certified by the state associations to complete inspections.

We service and install propane equipment and lines outside the building. When we conduct a safety check, we also go into the building to see what appliances are in use and if they meet code. But we do not provide service inside the home or business.

Please contact one of our three locations for more information on our services or to order propane.

Ordering Propane

To order propane, you must first set up an account with Farmers Union Cooperative and complete a credit application.

Once your account is approved, we’ll inspect your equipment to make sure your system is ready to go. We also lease tanks if needed.

We recommend that you be placed on scheduled delivery to keep your tank full. However, if you prefer to call in an order, then we suggest giving us a call once your tank reads between 20 and 30% full.

Please allow a 48-hour notice for residential deliveries. Also, make sure your tank does not go dry, as this will require a full inspection and additional fee.

Contracts and Payment Options to Fit Your Life

We are flexible in how we work with our customers, and we can create a contract and payment program that works for your needs. Please contact us if you’d like a contract created. Some choices include:

  • Yearly budget billing. This program evens out payments across the year, so you don’t have a spike in costs during winter heating months. Contracted gallons run from September 1- April 15.
  • Prepay for your needs to lock in a price.
  • Request auto withdrawal to pay for deliveries.
  • Residential, farm and commercial contracts available.

Propane Safety

Safety comes first with Farmers Union, and our people receive ongoing training to ensure that we are the best at what we do.

We routinely conduct leak checks. And we always do a system inspection when initiating service, whether you own the tank and equipment or if it’s a new installation.

Additionally, we make sure existing equipment is brought up to code, and we will conduct a leak check on the system any time a system is opened or runs out of fuel.

Watch for our annual awareness mailing to understand what you can do to ensure your propane equipment is safe and check out our safety materials here.

What to do if you smell gas?

In the rare event of a propane leak, you must know how to protect yourself and others. These steps are essential to protect people and property. You must take them without delay as soon as you smell propane, either inside your home or anywhere else there is gas equipment.

  • Extinguish candles, cigarettes and other sources of ignition.
  • Get yourself and everyone else out of the house or wherever you smell gas IMMEDIATELY!
  • Don’t use light switches, thermostats, telephones or appliances until you are safely out.
  • Close the propane tank safety valve if you can safely access it.
  • Call 911 and Farmers Union Cooperative as soon as you are a safe distance away from where you smelled gas.
  • Give first responders and qualified propane service technicians time to check for escaped gas and do any needed repairs.
  • Even if you no longer smell gas, stay away and don’t try to turn on the propane supply valve.
  • Make sure a trained propane service technician repairs the leak, then inspects all gas appliances and relights the pilots.
  • Wait until you are given permission before you return.
